I will be speaking at ClueCon in Chicago on August 3rd about writing Asterisk modules.

With my presentation, I hope to demonstrate that native modules are a reasonable alternative to AGI and spaghetti dial-plan code in many situations. Here are some examples of topics I may cover:

  • Using res_odbc to cleanly tie Asterisk in with a relational database
  • Licensing implications of directly linking with Asterisk
  • Custom CDR modules for more advanced logging
  • Generating events through the Asterisk Manager API

I don't want to get in to anything TOO complicated like timing because that is a whole can of worms in Asterisk.
